India – Land of Spices
India is rightly called the Land of Spices. No country in the world produces as many varieties of spices as India.
Out of 109 spices listed by ISO (International Standards Organization), India produces around 75 spices in its various climatic regions. India is one of the largest producer, consumer and exporter of spices in the world.
The varying climatic conditions in India provide ample scope for the cultivation of a variety of spices. Almost all Indian states produce spices, with the total area under spice cultivation to be 3.21 million hectares.
Kerala has a tradition of spice trade about 3000 years and the quality of the Kerala spice is famous all over the world.
